I prefer to create themes; something, which tells a story, rather than randomly hanging charms on my bracelets. With the four seasons in mind, I designed this fabulously overloaded kitsch themed bracelet. I use charms and beads collected from around the world, and will use vintage, new, crystal and Lucite, and even buttons - in fact anything to create the desired effect I am looking for.
To begin, I used different coloured leaves to depict the four seasonal changes, from palest green to orange and then brown. Then within each season, I used charms and flowers associated with that season, including, charms representing the various seasonal special occasions.
Spring brought to mind, pale leaves, lambs, tulips and polyanthus. Chocolates and champagne for Valentines Day, a bible and cross for Easter, and a shamrock for St Patrick’s Day.
As the leaves turn green, and the heat draws us outdoors to enjoy summer activities, I used loads of charms associated with sport, picnics, BBQ's, the beach and gardening.
In no time at all, the leaves begin their autumnal display, pumpkins lend themselves to becoming Jack o’lanterns, and witches, spiders and black cats remind us it is Halloween. Then dry brown leaves drop, poinsettias bloom, and snowflakes fall Christmas baubles appear, and Rudolph and Father Christmas come to visit.
The charm bracelet clasps join the end of winter with the start of spring and the circle of seasons is complete.
These charms are all good quality, some of which are vintage.
