DAY OF THE DEAD

Day of the Dead, or El Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican tradition to honour and celebrate loved ones who've passed on to the next life.

This is a wonderful tradition, where one day a year they celebrate the dead, by building shrines both indoors and out. These colourful shrines are decorated with photos of the loved ones who have passed on, their favourite items, such as jewellery, food and flowers.

Skeletons and brightly painted sugar skulls feature heavily. This is a day of vivid colour and celebration, and is definitely not a day of mourning.

With my 'Day Of The Dead' jewellery, I have tried to re-create the theme and mood of the celebration by using colourful charms and beads, which would traditionally be found at these shrines.
